Toyota Prius (2023) fifth generation serial hybrid review

Toyota Prius has been on the market since 1997. During this time, the car has sold over 5 million copies around the world.

Toyota is truly capable of doing wonders. In addition to the iconic Toyota Land Cruiser SUV, the company also has a terribly popular Prius hybrid in its arsenal. The public may have been skeptical in the first generation, but today the Toyota Prius is something of a cross between gasoline and electricity. This is confirmed by world sales, which since the distant 1997 have already exceeded the bar of 5,050,000 copies. To the delight of fans of the brand, the corporation recently rolled out a fresh Toyota Prius 2023 model year.

The appearance of the novelty is made in the current corporate style of the company, presented on the Toyota BZ4X, as well as on the brand new Crown. Daytime running lights are combined with head optics and a thin strip of the radiator grille into a single line.

A massive air intake flaunts in the center of the front bumper. The body profile is woven from smooth transitions, and rounded wheel arches emphasized by edging, which can accommodate alloy wheels up to 19 inches in size. At the rear, under the sloping roofline, the taillights are mounted in a single unit. The rear bumper has a contrasting plastic insert imitating a diffuser. The liftback is 4,600mm long, 1,780 wide, 1,430mm high, and 2,750mm axle-to-axle.

The interior of the Toyota Prius has also been redesigned. The virtual instruments are placed on a 7-inch display, which is now placed in front of the driver, and not in the center of the panel. The touchscreen of the multimedia complex rises above the central air vents. Below is a two-zone climate control unit. On the central tunnel there is a transmission joystick and several additional keys. The Toyota Safety Sense branded set of assistants is responsible for safety. Also in the arsenal of expensive versions there is a remote-controlled automatic parking system.

The new Toyota Prius is based on the upgraded TNGA architecture, with the prefix GA-C. A MacPherson strut is installed on the front axle, and not an independent double-lever design on the rear, the battery is located under the rear row of seats. The starting modification is equipped with a 1.8-liter gasoline unit, the output of which is increased to 140 forces. The next version has a hybrid installation based on a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine. The return of the system is exactly 193 hp, which will allow you to cope with the discipline of 0-100 in 7.5 seconds, while the petrol version overcomes it in 9.3 seconds. Optionally available is the E-Four all-wheel drive system, which provides for the installation of an additional electric motor on the rear axle. The older version of the Prius PHEV is a plug-in hybrid based on a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four with 148 horsepower. Paired with the unit is a 160-horsepower electric motor, and the total power is 223 forces, which allow you to exchange the first “hundred” in 6.7 seconds.

Toyota Prius with mild hybrids will appear on the market this winter, and by the spring of next year, the lineup will also be replenished with rechargeable versions.
