Top selling cars in the world in 2022

Rating of the most popular cars in various markets of our planet over the past year

The automotive market in 2022 in the vast majority of countries has dipped significantly. This is evidenced by sales figures in individual countries. If you want to know the specific numbers and the bestseller list, then read this article to the end. The data are taken from authoritative European sources.

Good situation in China

The Chinese market is the only one that showed last year an increase of as much as 2% compared to 2021. For 12 months, 26.28 million cars were sold in China. It is noteworthy that this figure is even more than 2019. The Chinese market is twice the size of the American market and is considered the largest in the world. In many ways, such indicators were achieved due to electric cars, which occupy 20% of the total number. The BYD Song Plus, available as a traditional gasoline ICE, as a plug-in hybrid and as a pure electric car, became an absolute bestseller. In second place is the Nissan Sylphy. The top three is closed by a car with zero emissions Wuling Hongguang Mini EV.

Decline in North America

The US market fell 8% with 13.83 million cars sold. It is worth noting that since 2012 this is the most modest figure. Sedans and minivans continued to lose relevance, and crossovers and pickups began to take their place more actively. The huge Ford F-Series took the lead with 653,957 cars. The well-deserved "silver" went to the Chevrolet Silverado (523,249), and on the third RAM.

Freefall continues in Europe

In the EU, the decline curve has not changed its position. In 2022, 9.05 million cars were sold in the Old World. In 2021, this value was 6% higher. It is noteworthy that motorists have moved to more modest models. In Germany, all three leading places were taken by Volkswagen. The Golf hatchback was preferred by 84,282 customers, Tiguan by 59,136, T-Roc by 58,942. In France, Peugeot 208 (88,812), Renault Clio (64,012) and Dacia Sandero (64,293) are on the leaderboard. In Ferrari's homeland, the FIAT Panda enjoys particular success with 105,384 cars, as well as the Lancia Ypsilon (40,970) and the FIAT 500 (33,996). On British shores, the Nissan Qashqai, Vauxhall Corsa and Tesla Model Y were the most popular last year. In Spain, modest crossovers are loved. The best selling among them are Hyundai Tucson, Dacia Sandero and Seat Arona.

There are markets with good growth

Excellent results in Australia, India, Indonesia and Turkey. In the homeland of the kangaroo, Toyota Hilux (64,391), Ford Ranger (47,479), and Toyota RAV4 (34,845) enjoy special respect. In India, the first three places are held by Maruti.
