Crossover Mazda CX-90 (2023) review and all the details

After the premiere of the premium Mazda CX-60, the Japanese introduced the CX-90 for North America

Recently, Mazda has announced a new flagship. This is a huge three-row crossover Mazda CX-90. If the CX-60 is intended for the local, European and Australian market, then the 90th is aimed at conquering the North American coast. The novelty is built on a classic architecture that provides for rear-wheel drive and a longitudinal placement of the motor.

The appearance of the Mazda CX-90 is in many ways similar to the more modest "sixtieth". In front of the same head optics and grille. At the same time, the front bumper is unique. The profile of the body is distinguished by an increased rear overhang, an enlarged glass line and three-dimensional wheel arches, in which 21-inch rims are installed. The feed is brand new. The elongated taillights and the bumper, which is devoid of holes for exhaust pipes, look quite original. Belonging to the premium is emphasized by the abundance of chrome decor.

The interior of the Mazda CX-90, woven from Nappa leather, aluminum inserts, natural veneer and special fabric, is almost identical to the CX-60. The steering wheel hides virtual instruments, and the center console is crowned with a floating multimedia touchscreen. Its size in the basic version is 10.25 inches, and in older versions - 12.3 inches. A head-up display is available as an option. In addition, there are expensive 12-speaker Bose acoustics, a panoramic roof with an electric sunroof, an all-round camera system and much more on board. Depending on the modification, the cabin can accommodate 6, 7, or 8 seats. In the version with two separate seats on the second row, they are equipped with heating and ventilation.

The Mazda CX-90 is powered by a mild or plug-in hybrid system. In the first case, a 3.3-liter “turbo-six” with 345 forces and 500 Nm is hidden under the hood. A pair of internal combustion engines is a 48-volt starter-generator and an 8-band automatic transmission that transmits power to all wheels. More expensive modifications are based on a plug-in hybrid based on a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder unit. The total return is 327 forces and 500 Nm. As in the first case, the motor is mated to an 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.

Despite the desire of the Mazda CX-90 to be in the premium segment, the car does not have air suspension. The front axle has a double-link scheme, and the rear axle has a multi-link design. The Kinematic Posture Control system is responsible for combating body roll when cornering.

Production lines for the production of the Mazda CX-90 will be set up in Japan. Estimated start of sales is scheduled for the end of spring this year. According to foreign sources, the price will range from 40 to 60 thousand dollars.
