A new, even more exclusive version of the luxurious Mercedes S-Class

The luxurious Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has been turned into a plug-in hybrid.

The star firm has expanded plug-in hybrid technology beyond its range of conventional passenger cars, whether sedans, compact cars or SUVs, and into AMG's sportiest division. PHEVs have taken over the German brand's product range. Surrounded by an air of exclusivity, Maybach has just unveiled its first-ever plug-in hybrid model.

The Mercedes-Maybach S 580 e-Class is a superb sedan in every respect, featuring an extended length, a spectacular grille with fine chrome trims and a distinctive alloy wheel design.

In fact, the Maybach plug-in hybrid that we see in the images is nothing but the Mercedes S-Class 580 e with an extended wheelbase, which the developers of the Mercedes luxury division have made larger. With a body length of 3.4 meters and an overall length of 5.47 meters, you can't say that Maybach's first-ever plug-in hybrid is a low-profile car in its presentation. No weight is specified in the official technical description, although this will largely depend on the package each buyer chooses.

The current Maybach S-Class offering includes a 6-liter V12, a 4-liter V8 and this new PHEV. It features an inline three-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and a six-cylinder engine that is accompanied by an electric motor with 150 horsepower and 440 Nm of torque. The combination provides a maximum output of 510 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque. With a battery that has not been announced (presumably it will use the 21.5 kWh S 580 e battery), Mercedes guarantees that its most expensive plug-in car is capable of driving an approved distance of up to 100 kilometers, although it indicates that this range will largely depend on the equipment of each unit.

The plug-in hybrid Maybach is almost 5.5 meters long and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 5.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 kilometers per hour. For recharging, choose high power systems. DC power up to 60 kW for fast recovery in as little as 30 minutes. AC provides charging power of up to 11 kW.

The cost of the car has not yet been announced.
