Volkswagen to unveil five-year 'master plan' to accelerate EV adoption

A plan that will bring with it important innovations in the field of products and production.

The Volkswagen Group is one of the most important business conglomerates in the world and the second largest car manufacturer in the world. Since taking over as CEO of the Volkswagen Group, Oliver Blume has worked intensively to redirect efforts towards real electrification based on manufacturing capabilities. The five-year plan will accelerate the transition to electric vehicles.

The new leadership seems to be very clear about what it wants to do and, above all, how it wants to do it. The first is to fix problems with the Cariad software. The Volkswagen subsidiary tasked with developing software to drive the new electric vehicles is months late. This has become a real problem for the launch schedule. Audi and Porsche have been forced to postpone the presentations of the Porsche Macan and Audi A6 e-tron. The first one should have already seen the light of day, while the second one doesn't have a specific release date yet.

Another important issue regarding the five-year plan, which will be officially presented on March 14, concerns production. The Volkswagen Group boasts an impressive manufacturing capability.

The well-known project Trinity has a lot of attention on the agenda. It is to create electric vehicles with high autonomy and level 4 autonomous control. The project requires advanced development of the SSP platform and special facilities for the production of models made with this design.

In addition, Volkswagen, Audi and Skoda are about to change the way they sell their electric vehicles. The dealer model will disappear and a new format will come into play. Brands will control inventory and price, while the dealership will charge a sales commission as well as a target markup. The launch will begin around the summer. This change will bring relief to dealers as they will not have to make upfront payments for cars.

Earlier it became known that BMW will officially release its first new generation electric vehicles in 2025.
