Is the Tesla Model 3 in for a grand upgrade?
According to some reports, the compact electric car awaits exterior adjustments as well as a new Hardware 4.0 control unit.
The Tesla Model 3 was announced back in 2016. Due to the rapid development of electric cars in the PRC, the model is losing its competitive edge every year. The BYD Seal, Changan Deep Blue SL03 and Weilai ET5 come on the heels of Musk's creation. For 2022, Model 3 sales in China are down 17.5% from 2021. Even after price cuts were launched earlier this year, only 12,659 cars were sold in January.
Rumours of a Tesla Model 3 redesign have started to fill the web, starting in November 2022. The new project is codenamed 'Highland' and aims to reduce the number and complexity of the electric car's components through a redesign. There are also cosmetic adjustments to the exterior as well as increased displays in the cabin. Insiders claim that serial production of the novelty will start in the third quarter of this year.
As for the hardware integration of FSD intelligent driving, MCU car entertainment system and HW car networking module, which is the brain of Tesla models, will be upgraded to version 4.0. Compared to the current 3.0, the system will be able to process larger amounts of information, in a shorter time. Ilon Musk has also said that he will not provide an upgrade service from HW 3.0 to HW 4.0, so those wishing to experience Tesla's latest smart features will have to move to a new car.
