The new Peugeot 408 is coming to Europe as an SUV

Peugeot 408 is a global model of the French brand. In the form of a sedan, it was announced in Russia, the Middle Kingdom and South America. Now the car was also presented on the home market, but already in the form of a compact SUV. The closest relative of the five-door fastback is the Peugeot 308, which has shared its architecture with the novelty. The basis of these models is the EMP2 platform. The Peugeot 408 of the 2023 model year will be offered both with traditional combustion engines and as hybrids.

The crossover has size, close to the model Peugeot 508, however, instead of a clearance of 145 mm in the sedan, the ground clearance of the SUV has increased up to 189 mm. The novelty is distinguished by bright appearance with branded "fangs" of LED headlights, which can optionally become matrix. The radiator grille has received a unique filling in the form of a cascade of lines located at different angles. The impetuous silhouette is notable for its narrow glazing line, developed body relief and a falling roof line, giving the style of a cross-coupé. The stern lights have the traditional claw mark pattern.

All this is packed into a massive aerodynamic bodykit and emphasized by the contour framing of unpainted plastic and a unique pattern of wheel rims, which, depending on the version can be 17 to 20 inches in diameter.

The Peugeot 408 has quite a rich "inner world". Behind the truncated multifunctional steering wheel there is a 10-inch virtual dashboard and under the line of the central air deflectors there is a multimedia touchscreen of the same size. The equipment also includes expensive 9-speaker acoustics, ventilated and massage seats, as well as active cruise control and a night vision system.

The base version will be powered by a 1.2-liter gasoline 130-horsepower turbo, which mates with an 8-ACP. The other versions will be powered by hybrids based on a 1.6-liter "turbo" engine. In the first case, the total capacity makes 180 forces, and in the second - 225, thus the moment is identical everywhere - 360 Nm. Without participation of the internal combustion engine the cross-country will pass about 60 km of a way. In the foreseeable future should appear and purely electric modification. European sales are planned for the beginning of next year.
