The long-awaited Volkswagen ID.2 all has become official

Important features of the German automaker's new electric model due in 2025.

Volkswagen ID.2 all became official. At the #VWforthepeople event, the German automaker unveiled the concept of a new car that will be added to its 100% electric catalog in the coming years and that is intended to be its main goal to reach a wide audience. Not only thanks to a new design language, but also thanks to a proposal that promises good autonomy at a competitive price.

The Volkswagen ID.2 all wants to be an electric car "for everyone" and, on paper at least, it seems to have what it takes to do so. The car will be the first front-wheel drive vehicle developed on the MEB Entry platform and will be powered by a 166 kW engine, equivalent to 226 horsepower. Thus, it will reach a maximum speed of 160 kilometers per hour and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 7 seconds.

Unfortunately, VW didn't provide too much technical details about the car. Although it was mentioned that it will have a range of up to 450 kilometers on the WLTP cycle.

As for its batteries, it has been confirmed that they will handle loads of up to 125kW rather than 200kW as previously thought. In any case, this would be more than enough to restore the charge at a good speed. According to Volkswagen, the ID.2 all will be able to charge from 10-80% in just 20 minutes.

In terms of design, the Volkswagen ID.2 all is a compact car with a well recognizable aesthetic, but it doesn't differ too much from what we've seen in other models from the brand. Indeed, at first glance it looks like a Polo. Not without reason, the automaker itself confirmed before the event that the car will sit between two of the brand's iconic models: the Polo itself and the Golf.

A wise decision, given that it was originally intended to be given a similar look to that of the controversial ID.Life concept that went viral in 2021 and drew heavy criticism. As for its external dimensions, Volkswagen ID.2 all will be closer to the Polo, its length barely exceeds 4 meters. But the company assures that its interior space will be more similar to that of the Golf.

Since we are talking about the interior, the Volkswagen ID.2 all concept will include a system with two displays: one behind the wheel and the other on the center console. But it will also have physical commands under the latter - for climate control, for example, as well as on the doors and on the steering wheel itself. But during the presentation, special attention was paid to the inclusion of a wheel-like team that will be located between the front seats.

It is worth noting that during the event held in Hamburg, only the outside of the car was shown live, with some images of the interior on the screens. So you'll have to wait a little longer to really take a look at the Volkswagen ID.2 all.

Availability and price Volkswagen ID.2 all

Volkswagen says the ID.2 all will go on sale in Europe in 2025 and will cost less than 25,000 euros. The production version of this concept is part of the German automaker's strategy to launch 10 new electric models by 2026.

On the other hand, the company assured that, despite the difficult current situation, it is still working on an electric car that it intends to sell for less than 20,000 euros. The last one might be ID.1, which has been rumored for a long time. Also, according to rumors, its price will be 17,000 euros.
