The EU decision is bold: from 2035 carbon emissions of new cars is 0
The Council of the European Union at yesterday's meeting decided to minimize carbon emissions, according to newly adopted targets after 2035, the maximum allowable amount of these indicators should become zero.
The unveiled EU Council decision states that the total greenhouse gas emissions caused by new passenger cars in the period from 2030 to 2034 must be reduced by 55% compared to 2021. It goes on to talk about zeroing out the permitted emissions by 2035, reducing them by one hundred percent.
The innovation has good goals: first, to reduce emissions from on-road vehicles, and cars and vans without mileage are the worst offenders in this regard. Second, ensuring that the automotive industry creates, adopts, uses and disseminates innovations will serve a good purpose.
In the end, gasoline or diesel units with internal combustion engine have no chance of future prosperity, while electric cars will have a better chance.
The EU is supposed to draw up rules for the registration of cars running on carbon-neutral fuels, such as hydrogen.
