Tips for driving in the rain

The road is not always ideal, as many would like. We will tell you what you need to consider when driving a car in rainy conditions.

With inclement weather, traffic increases, visibility deteriorates, the track becomes more slippery, and driving becomes more difficult and dangerous. Here are some tips to keep in mind when you're about to drive in the rain.

Keep more distance

In the rain, vision deteriorates greatly, which slows down reflexes, as well as the reaction of the car, so it is very important to keep a large distance when driving, the braking distance in such conditions usually increases three times. For example, when driving at a speed of 120 km / h, the car will slow down about 60 meters, and when driving at a speed of 50 km / h - 30 meters. Also, remember that the heavier the car, the longer the braking.

Good tires

Tires are the link between the car and the road, so in these cases they are one of the fundamental parts of the car. It is important that all tires are of good quality, if not, the two best tires should be mounted on the drive axle for more grip. Today, there are special tires that have higher grip and wider grooves.

Improving visibility

We have already mentioned that rain dramatically reduces visibility, which makes us doubly careful. Our allies are parking lights, brake lights and fog lights. Windshield wipers deserve special attention, which must work correctly. Be sure to regularly check the operation of the wipers.

Avoid hydroplaning

You may not be familiar with this term, hydroplaning refers to the loss of contact between the tire and the road, which in turn can cause the car to skid dangerously or, worse, lose control. To avoid this, it is important to have tires in good condition, hold the steering wheel with confidence, try not to make sudden maneuvers, brake smoothly, and avoid places with a lot of water.

Beware of the turns

Another thing to say is that riding in the rain is dangerous and requires as much attention as possible, anticipating turns and handling them correctly can make a big difference. Look ahead for turn warning signs. Do not exceed the speed limit, and it is better to slow down when cornering. If the road is unfamiliar, it is better to refrain from the first trip on it in the rain if possible.
