Genesis unveils Neolun, a new competitor to the Mercedes-Benz GLS and BMW X

The Genesis Neolun concept looks beautiful inside and out, and could be a prototype for the three-row GV90.

Genesis has a new SUV - or at least a concept for what could be. It's the Neolun, and it's set to debut at this year's New York Auto Show.

Inspired by Korean art, notes Genesis chief creative officer Luc Donckerwolke, the Neolun concept has a unique square design with the brand's signature lighting motif: "two lines" front and rear.

The exterior is painted in two-tone Midnight Black and Majestic Blue, and the interior is finished in gorgeous Royal Indigo leather with white trim. Two rows of luxurious seats swivel toward each other to simulate the warmth of a living room. Speaking of warmth, the floor of the concept is heated. Not just the seats, but the entire floor.

Neolun features a special sound system with an advanced "sound architecture" that gives passengers a fully immersive, concert hall-like sound experience. As in the GV60, the front compartment features a crystal sphere that rotates when the audio system is turned on.

The Genesis Neolun concept is a truly large SUV. In this case, the concept only has two rows of seats, but we know that a production GV90 is on the way, and that version should offer at least a third row. Like the Mercedes-Maybach GLS, the Genesis could potentially offer two variants of the GV90 - one with two more luxurious rows or a traditional version with three rows of seats.

Details like performance, powertrain and price remain a mystery. We'll likely find out what the production version of this concept could look like before the end of the year.

Back in 2021, the first rumors about Genesis' plans to develop and release a new full-size SUV began to appear. It was predicted that the GV90 model would become an electric vehicle and would use a common platform with electric cars of Hyundai and Kia brands. However, in February this year, it was reported that Genesis was adjusting its electrification strategy towards hybrid vehicles. As a result of this change, the upcoming GV90, scheduled for release by the end of the year, will probably be presented as a hybrid with a gasoline engine and an electric motor.
