The results of the voting for the Oxford Dictionary word of the year have been announced. This is the slang phrase "goblin mode". It is used in relation to people behaving asocially - selfish, dirty, lazy, greedy.
Linguist Andrian Vlakhov explained that this expression was very popular during the past year - which is what made "goblin mode" the main one in the outgoing year.
"It is clear that the events of this year have overshadowed 'goblin mode,' but the choice is based on the events of the past," the expert said.
