Brendan Fraser broke in tears when won the National Board of Review award

The 54-year-old actor was noted for his brilliant performance in the lead role in the drama "The Whale."

Brendan Fraser is very grateful for the opportunity to return to big cinema. The day before, the actor took home the National Board of Film Critics Award for Best Lead Actor for The Whale. He played a solitary English teacher who suffers from an eating disorder and is trying to mend his relationship with his daughter. Prior to that, Fraser received the Film Critics Award in the distant 2006 for "Collision".

In the prize race at the end of last year, the actor beat such colleagues as Austin Butler ("Elvis"), Tom Cruise ("Top Gun: Maverick"), Colin Farrell ("Banshee Inisherina"), Paul Mescala ("Aftersun") and Bill Nye ("Living").

After thanking the makers of "Whale" from the stage, Fraser couldn't contain his emotions and tearfully noted that the film is "about love. "It's about redemption, about finding a ray of light in a dark place. I was lucky enough to work with an incredible ensemble. Darren Aronofsky, I was in the middle of nowhere - I probably should have left some sort of thread - but you found me, and like all great directors, you just showed me where to go and where I should be," Fraser added.
