Sausages, sausages and other processed meat products have long been an integral part of the diet of millions of people around the world. Many people see them as a convenient and familiar way to get full. However, few people think about the serious health risks they conceal.

A number of scientific studies show that reducing the consumption of such meat products by at least a third would prevent about 350,000 new cases of diabetes, 92,500 cardiovascular diseases and 53,300 diagnoses of colorectal cancer in 10 years. Such statistics raise serious questions about the risks associated with the consumption of sausages, frankfurters and other processed meat products.

The danger of these products lies in a number of factors. First, they are rich in saturated fat and cholesterol, which contributes to the development of atherosclerosis - the main prerequisite for coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction and stroke.

In addition, processed meat usually contains excessive amounts of salt, which negatively affects blood pressure and the cardiovascular system in general.

Of particular concern is the presence of nitrites and nitrates in such products - chemical substances used to add color and extend shelf life. In the body, they can turn into carcinogenic compounds, increasing the risk of cancer.

Also dangerous are various preservatives that can cause allergic reactions and other undesirable effects, especially in people with sensitive bodies.

Equally alarming is the fact that regular consumption of processed meat is associated with an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. This may be due to the high content of saturated fat, salt and chemical additives in such foods.

Such a balanced, predominantly plant-based diet will not only reduce the harmful effects of processed meat, but will also provide the body with all the necessary nutrients, helping to improve overall health and reduce the risk of chronic disease.

Of course, completely eliminating sausages and frankfurters from the diet is not always possible. However, even a small reduction in their consumption, replacing them with healthier alternatives can bring huge health benefits. After all, the results of scientific research only confirm that these products are a real “silent death threat” to our well-being.
