The therapist told how to plunge into the hole
The body needs to prepare for low temperatures.
On January 18, the Orthodox celebrate Epiphany Eve - this is how the people call the day on the eve of the feast of the Epiphany. One of the rituals of this holiday is swimming in the hole. However, diving into icy water without preparation is impossible. Natalya Vinarskaya, a doctor-therapist of the Doctis telemedicine service, told about how not to harm yourself.
According to her, swimming in cold water can be beneficial - it strengthens the immune system, trains the heart, improves blood circulation and improves mood. Due to a sharp temperature drop, the activity of the adrenal glands is activated, which contributes to the production of endorphins.
However, there are categories of people who are contraindicated in diving into ice water, these are hypertensive patients (ice water causes vasospasm), people with epilepsy (cold can provoke an attack), as well as those who have infectious diseases in the acute stage. Also, the baptismal ritual is undesirable for pregnant and lactating women, children under 7 years old, and representatives of the 65+ category - in childhood, thermoregulation has not yet improved, in the elderly it is already broken).
Before swimming in the hole, it will not be superfluous to prepare for the cold in advance - dousing with cold water will harden the body.
Dive only in places equipped with a safe descent into the water. It is also necessary to have a medical team on duty nearby. And just before diving, do a little warm-up, move your limbs.
