The delicate aroma of nuts and honey palette of freshly brewed tea can help in the fight against insomnia.
Green tea is very popular. It is ideal for hot weather, as it refreshes and quenches thirst. There are many varieties that differ from each other in aroma, color, twisting and useful qualities. The co-founder of the TAPIERA brand tea station chain Anastasia Makhonina told us which variety of green tea has the most beneficial effect on the human body.
"As practice has shown, the most useful type of green tea is the one that is roasted. Under the influence of high temperatures, the amount of caffeine and tannin in the raw material decreases, but the level of pyrazines - aromatic compounds - increases. This makes the drink energetically charged: the mood improves, fatigue goes away, blood circulation accelerates. But at the same time, you can even drink it before bed. Among such types of green tea, hojicha is especially popular," explains Anastasia Makhonina.
Hojicha - "roasted tea"
This type of tea appeared relatively recently, namely in the 20s of the last century in Japan. One merchant decided to restore the spoiled goods and roasted them. When brewed, an amazing soft drink of a rich golden color with notes of nuts and vanilla was obtained. It quickly won the hearts of ordinary Japanese. And, although it is not used for traditional tea ceremonies, in everyday life it is even added to beer and ice cream.
Hojicha or hojicha is most often made from Bancha leaves. Ideally, they should be roasted in porcelain dishes on charcoal, but at home it is allowed to use a gas stove. Many Japanese families keep special ceramic pots for roasting hojicha.
Large leaves and stems of tea are roasted until they get a brown or copper hue. When brewed, the drink acquires an amber hue. Hojicha for sale is made in several versions. You can find roasted large leaves together with stems, as well as raw materials ground to a powder or fine powder state.
Who is hojicha suitable for?
This is a unique drink. It has very little caffeine and almost no tannin, which makes it possible for people with high blood pressure and those who suffer from insomnia to drink it. In winter, it helps to warm up, and in summer, on the contrary, it is very refreshing, especially if it is cooled and served with ice. In Japan, this tea is preferred to be drunk after lunch to speed up digestion.
The drink is perfect for the middle of the day, as it helps to perk up and relieve fatigue. Roasted green tea improves cognitive abilities and increases reaction.
