Using the world's first phone with a retractable portrait camera

Tecno's global flagship, the Phantom X2 Pro offers a true background blur effect, unlike the iPhone 14 and Samsung Galaxy S22, which create this effect using software.

The Chinese company unveiled its new Phantom X2 series lineup in Dubai on Wednesday, led by the Phantom X2 Pro, which will retail for around $930.

The main feature of this phone is a pop-up 50-megapixel portrait camera, which apparently makes the Phantom X2 Pro the world's first commercially sold smartphone with this feature.

The X2 Pro's 50MP portrait camera is complemented by a 50MP main camera and a 13MP wide-angle lens.

The Phantom X2 Pro camera takes great pictures both day and night. Many popular smartphones, such as the iPhone 14, can achieve the background blur effect with their software and depth sensors, but Tecno's Phantom X2 Pro delivers a true bokeh effect. That being said, it doesn't have a lot of additional tools and portrait mode settings like the iPhone 14. What the X2 Pro does have is a lot of filters, as well as tools for the so-called "digital plastic surgery".

Aside from the flashy design and pop-up camera, the Phantom X2 Pro has many of the features you'd expect from a 2022 flagship, such as a crisp 6.8-inch FHD+ display, Mediatek 9000 processor, reliable cameras, fast 45W charging, and 5G.

The Phantom X2 comes in Stardust Gray and Moonlight Silver color options and includes 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage as standard, with Tecno following in the footsteps of Xiaomi and other Chinese brands by offering 256GB as the base storage tier. The Pro model is available in Stardust Gray and Mars Orange and comes with 12GB of RAM and the same 256GB of storage.
