WhatsApp developers are working on a feature that will allow iPhone and Android users to transcribe audio messages into text messages, according to WABetaInfo. This feature will allow you to “read the audio messages” of WhatsApp.

According to information from the beta, transcripts will be processed on the device itself (iPhone and Android) and no data will be sent to Apple or any other manufacturer, which is good news from a privacy standpoint.

The new feature for converting voice notes into text messages belongs to version 2.23.3.73 of WhatsApp Messenger, which is currently available in beta testing. As such, it still has some limitations considering it's under development.
