Samsung has unveiled its much-awaited Galaxy S24 lineup of smartphones, and the Ultra version is the star. The South Korean brand's flagship not only features a stunning design that boasts a completely flat screen, titanium frame and slightly curved edges, but also an enviable array of specs, both hardware and software.

Apart from its own changes as a result of model evolution, the Galaxy S24 Ultra repeats the general formula that it has already applied - with excellent results - in previous models. We're talking pure power thanks to the latest generation chip, more than enough storage, excellent quality cameras and the most important benefits of the latest version of Android disguised as One UI 6.1.

But as Samsung so well pointed out in its event invitation, the standout feature of the Galaxy S24 is its integration with new artificial intelligence tools. And the Asian firm wasn't kidding when it said the era of Galaxy AI was coming. Although we will go into more detail on this topic later. Now let's look at the main hardware and design features of the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: Key Specifications

Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with QHD+ resolution and variable refresh rate from 1 to 120Hz. It also boasts Corning Gorilla Armor, which Samsung explained has been modified at the molecular level as well as optically enhanced. This provides benefits such as four times greater scratch resistance and 50% greater durability. Likewise, under certain circumstances it was possible to reduce glare by up to 75%.

Under the hood we find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip for the Galaxy. This means that the SoC has been optimized specifically for the new Galaxy S24. Additionally, it includes an enhanced Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to perform AI-related tasks faster. The hardware also offers ray tracing support, allowing you to get the most out of your graphics performance while gaming. And to avoid overheating issues, the Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with a vapor chamber that is almost 2 times larger than the 2023 model.

When it comes to memory and storage, there are no big surprises here. The Samsung Galaxy S24 comes in three versions: 256GB, 512GB and 1TB of storage, all of which come with 12GB of RAM. The battery currently has a capacity of 5,000 mAh and Samsung has decided to include a minimum of 50% recycled cobalt as part of its environmental commitments. In terms of charging, it supports fast wired charging up to 45W, although the charger is sold separately. It can also charge wirelessly and is compatible with PowerShare technology, which allows you to share charging with devices from other manufacturers without the need for cables.

The camera section of the Galaxy S24 Ultra is again an area where Samsung has put a lot of effort into. The rear camera features a 200-megapixel primary sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS), f/1.7 aperture and 85° field of view. It is complemented by a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle lens and two telephoto lenses: one 50 MP with 5x optical zoom and one 10 MP with 3x optical zoom. In both cases they are equipped with optical navigation. The front camera, meanwhile, is 12MP.

Galaxy S24 Ultra comes with artificial intelligence

The new Galaxy S24 Ultra, like the regular S24 and S24+, comes with new artificial intelligence tools developed by Samsung. The Asian company has placed a lot of emphasis on this kind of generative functionality built into its core applications and utilities. Here are some of the most important:

  • Circle to Search: This Galaxy S24 feature was developed in conjunction with Google and allows you to search the Internet by selecting any item that appears on the screen. To activate it, you just need to hold down the Home button for a few seconds and circle the objects you want.
  • Live Translate: Performs real-time text and voice translations in both directions using the built-in calling app.
  • Translator: Translates conversations in real time and split screen, even when the Galaxy S24 Ultra doesn't have internet access.
  • Chat Assist is an assistant built into Samsung's native keyboard that is responsible for providing recommendations to improve the tone of a message, social media post, or email.
  • Note Assist and Transcript Assist: The former is integrated into the Samsung Notes app and uses artificial intelligence to create resumes, covers, or templates. The second can transcribe, translate and summarize voice recordings, even if they involve multiple people.
  • Of course, AI also benefits from the photographic section of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. The new South Korean flagship includes tools such as provisional Engine and Nightography, which help you get rid of blurry, pixelated or low-quality images when shooting in night conditions.

Similarly, Samsung has released utilities such as Edit Suggestion, which offers retouching suggestions, and Generative Edit, which uses generative AI to fill in, enhance, or change photos. Added to these is Instant Slow Mo, which generates additional frames using artificial intelligence when you want to create a slow motion video.

Availability, price and colors

As we indicated earlier, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra will be available with three storage options, but all with 12GB of RAM. In addition, they will be available in four colors inspired by different minerals: Titanium Black, Titanium Grey, Titanium Violet and Titanium Yellow. Exclusive options in other colors will be offered in the brand's online store. The price of the Galaxy S24 Ultra starts from 1,459 euros.
