Lenovo presented a prototype of the first laptop with a transparent display

The 17.3-inch Micro-LED display achieves transparency of up to 55%.

Augmented reality functions have now become widespread in rather unexpected objects - laptops, although so far only a prototype of such a device from the Lenovo brand has been shown. The laptop was demonstrated at the Mobile World Congress 2024 electronics exhibition in Barcelona.

The Lenovo ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept lacks a classic back cover and this deprives the user of some privacy. The invisible screen not only does not hide the surrounding space from the user, but also makes it possible for random passers-by or interlocutors to observe what is happening on the display. However, if we take into account that the manufacturer calls graphic designers its main audience, the new product quite interestingly combines manufacturability and the ability to simultaneously demonstrate projects. And manufacturers have assigned the solution to the problem of confidentiality of the laptop working environment to the function of changing the degree of transparency of the display.

From a technological point of view, the device turned out to be quite interesting:

  • frameless MicroLED display with a diagonal of 17.3 inches with a supported resolution of 720p and a maximum brightness of 1000 nits;
  • Instead of a physical keyboard, there is a glass surface with virtual input tools displayed.
