7 advantages of a psychologist: how to choose a professional who will reall

For those who believe that it is better to foresee than to treat, we tell you how to choose a specialist and when to contact him.

Even psychologists have psychologists. This phrase was invented by the Americans, and in their case it is true. In ours, the psychologist quite recently “separated” from the psychiatrist and from the doctor who treats insanity. Today, Russians are more willing to go to therapy, but still, 90% of people act on the principle of calling an ambulance—when they are completely “locked in”. Anastasia Kaitukova, a psychologist, author of transformational games, founder of the Center for Modern Psychology and organizer of the All-Russian Self-Development Forum for Women, talks about the principles of choosing a specialist.

“Calling an ambulance” does not work with psychology. There is, of course, short-term emergency therapy, but it is also not an “anesthesia-surgery”, it is a month or two. In such cases, it is better to choose coaching techniques, BUT! Without support and consolidation with professional therapy, they will help briefly.

The first and most important thing you should understand is that you need to contact a psychologist when you “just about felt that something is a little bit wrong” or just to prevent mental health.

The second principle of choice is human. Yes, yes, if you are simply impressed by a person, this is a good sign. Listen to your instinct, intuition.

Thirdly, be sure to subscribe to a specialist in social networks, look at the information in the rating of aggregators, in search engines. In no case should a psychologist hate colleagues or clients, present cases from the “rescue-aggressor” series: “Masha, tortured by a hard life, came to me with self-esteem below the baseboard and a fool-husband.” What does it say? About abuse and disrespect. It is unlikely that such an expert can help someone. By the way, now it has become fashionable to use an aggressive presentation and method of working with a client. It doesn't suit everyone. Be attentive and careful. If the “specialist” speaks badly about colleagues, this is banal envy and problems with self-esteem.

A good psychologist lives in the paradigm: I am ok, the world is ok.

Fourth, we move on to professionalism. The psychologist from the first appointment must begin to lead the map. Just like in a regular clinic. Not “oh, but what did you come to me with last time? ”, and consciously start from the first appointment to keep the patient’s history.

The fifth and, probably, the most difficult—methods and methods. You need to choose what you like. There are a lot of directions in psychology:

- gestalt therapists

- fairy tale therapists

- Jungian psychoanalysts

- transformational psychologists

- specialists in transactional analysis, etc.

Do not be lazy, read about the main directions. At least intuitively, understand which one is closer to you.
