Priyanka Chopra on the cover of the February issue of Vogue
In an interview with the magazine, the 40-year-old actress told why she resorted to surrogacy.
Priyanka Chopra is the subject of a new issue of British Vogue. On the cover, she appeared in a bright yellow LaQuan Smith patent leather raincoat, her hair down and highlighting her eyes and lips. In a series of photos inside the issue, she showed some more colorful models of the American brand, posing in one of the pictures with her one-year-old daughter Malti Marie. Motherhood became the main topic of the interview that the actress gave to Vogue.
Announcing the birth of a girl, Priyanka and her husband, musician Nick Jonas, did not hide the fact that she was born thanks to a surrogate mother. Many did not like it, a wave of criticism fell upon the spouses. "I'm used to being thick-skinned when people talk about me," Chopra explained. “But it hurts me so much when they talk about my daughter. Leave her alone." According to the actress, it was still hard for her because the baby was born three months prematurely. “I know what it's like to hold her little hands while trying to find her veins. So no, she won't be the subject of gossip."
As for the reason for turning to a surrogate mother, the doctors forbade the star of the Quantico Base series to give birth. “I had medical contraindications. It was a forced step and I am so grateful that I was able to afford it. Our 'mommy' was so generous, kind, wonderful and funny, and she took care of this precious gift for us for six months."
Pointing out that critics are unlikely to change their minds about her after this interview, Chopra added, “You don't know me. You don't know what I went through. And just because I don't want to make my medical history and my daughter's history public, it doesn't give you the right to make up some reasons."
