Brad Pitt sued Angelina Jolie for defamation
The actor accuses his ex of behaving unfairly toward him by deliberately selling a share of their family business.
Brad Pitt accuses Angelina Jolie of negatively affecting the reputation of his wine company. In 2008, the actors bought Château Miraval in the south of France, and with it a winery producing a table drink called "Château Miraval". In 2014, they got married and often spent vacations at the estate together with their six children. However, in 2016, the actress filed for divorce, and since then, the former spouses have been trying to get a divorce in court and share custody of the offspring.
In a lawsuit filed the other day, Pitt, 58, pointed out that Jolie, 47, intentionally "tried to hurt him" by selling a stake in the business. Whereas before all the disagreements, they had agreed not to sell stakes in the company without mutual consent. The actor's lawyers told the Los Angeles County Superior Court that the Chateau Miraval brand was his "passion" project that grew "into a multimillion-dollar international enterprise that earned through his efforts a reputation as one of the most respected producers of rose wine." And they also noted that Jolie "did nothing for the success of Miraval."
.
In October, the actress allegedly sold her shares to Tenute del Mondo, which Pitt says "seeks to gain control of Miraval" and is "indirectly owned and controlled by Yuri Shefler, a Russian billionaire and owner of the Stoli Group." "Jolie secretly carried out the transaction, deliberately keeping Pitt in the dark and knowingly violating his contractual rights," the actor's lawyers said in a statement.
They also allege that Scheffler has already begun a hostile takeover of Chateau Miraval and is trying to get "confidential and underlying information about it for the benefit of his competing enterprise." The billionaire is accused of "ruthless business tactics and questionable professional connections," which, in turn, "endangers the reputation of the brand that Pitt has so tirelessly and carefully built." Lawyers stated that "Jolie attempted to force him into a partnership with a stranger, and worse, a stranger with malicious connections and intentions."
It looks like following Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's legal battle, we're in for another courtroom showdown. And who knows what unexpected details might come with it.
