For the coronation of Charles III, his wife chose a rare crown
We are talking about a copy that belonged to Queen Mary. For the May ceremony, it was decided to redo it.
British Queen Consort Camilla will wear the crown of Queen Mary at the May ceremony of her husband's official ascension to the throne. Such data was published by Buckingham Palace. This will be the first time in three centuries that a previously made crown will be put on a consort instead of having a new one made.
According to sources close to the palace, making this decision, Camilla was guided by the principle of "sustainable development and efficiency." Now the crown has already been removed from the permanent collection of the Tower of London, put on display in order to make the necessary adjustments.
The art deco crown was made in 1911 for the wife of King George V, Mary of Teck. For the May ceremony, it will replace the world's largest Cullinan III, IV and V diamonds in tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II. The stones were part of her personal collection and she often wore them as brooches.
