After the coronation, Charles III plans to change the title of Camilla
The wife of the British monarch will be called "Queen", and not "Queen Consort", as previously suggested.
Buckingham Palace has decided to refer to Camilla as "Queen" rather than "Queen Consort". According to sources close to Charles III, this will happen after the coronation, scheduled for May 6th, and thus complete the transformation of the wife of the current king in the eyes of the subjects.
When Camilla married the Prince of Wales, Charles, in 2005, it was believed that she would not be called "Queen" even when he ascended the throne. Among the reasons given was her not-so-good reputation, built on an extramarital affair with the prince when both of them were in legal relationships with other people. “There were three of us in this marriage, a little more than usual,” Princess Diana said in a now famous interview with Panorama.
But over time, Camilla managed to win the hearts of the British, and when in February last year, Elizabeth II called for her daughter-in-law to be called "Queen Consort", it became an expression of her highest support for those around her. But now Buckingham Palace has decided to go even further. “There is an opinion in the palace that the wording “queen consort” is too cumbersome and it would be easier to call Camilla simply “queen” when the time comes,” an informed source explained to reporters.
