Psychotherapist named ways to deal with overeating

Many problems are solved by working with your thoughts, attitudes and beliefs.

Overeating is one of the eating disorders that can be treated with psychotherapy. Compulsive overeating is characterized by a lack of feeling of satiety, eating without feeling hunger, and eating large amounts of food. People suffering from compulsive overeating consume a lot of sweets, salty, unhealthy - anything that actively produces "joy hormones" in the body. And then comes the feeling of guilt for the absorbed volumes of edibles. How to fight this type of overeating and how to avoid the associated consequences (weight gain, digestive diseases) in a conversation with Pravda.Ru correspondent psychotherapist, founder of music therapy in Russia Rushel Blavo.

Causes

Overeating occurs for reasons that can be divided into three groups:

- Biological - various malfunctions of internal organs, hereditary burdenedness;

- Social - formed from childhood negative eating habits (force-feeding, the rule to finish everything to the end, even if the feeling of fullness has come, eating as a measure of encouragement)

- psychological - "eating" of stress, negative emotions.

What to do?

In some cases, overeating can be treated with medication. More often it is a symptom of another illness. In this case, it is necessary to treat the disease first, and then begin to fight with overeating. In any case, a doctor's consultation and examination will not be superfluous. Next, it is important to direct your efforts to eliminate overeating:

1. Stop blaming yourself for what you eat. You've already recognized the problem and stepped on the path to fixing it.

2. Lose your inhibitions about eating certain foods. Forbidden fruit is always sweet, so you will only increase your desire to eat something "wrong.

3. Listen to yourself. Are you really hungry? Isn't your desire to eat a way to distract yourself, to forget about something? Try to think of another activity that would also distract you from something you were previously struggling with through food.

It is important to take the first step toward solving this problem. Subsequent steps will be much less effort.
