George Clooney spoke to Deadline about his friendship with Matthew Perry. The Friends star died on October 28th as a result of ketamine poisoning. Despite participating in the popular TV show, Clooney said his colleague and friend “wasn’t happy.” The two met through work several times while filming Friends and ER at Warner Bros., respectively. And even a little earlier.

“I knew Matt when he was 16,” George explained. – We played padel tennis. He is almost 10 years younger than me. And he was a wonderful, funny, funny guy.” Perry always wanted to star in a sitcom and believed that he would be the happiest man on earth if he did it. But when he got into Friends, expectations were not met.

“He wasn't happy. It didn't bring him joy or happiness or peace,” George continued. “We just knew he wasn't happy and I had no idea what he was doing... what he was talking about, all these heartbreaking things.” In 2022, Perry published an autobiography, where he talked about how he had struggled with addiction to alcohol and psychotropic drugs all his life. “What this tells you is that success and money and all these things don’t automatically bring you happiness. You should be happy with yourself and your life,” Clooney concluded.
