Change of season: how to properly clean and store seasonal items

Twice a year - in early autumn and early spring - we review our wardrobe, removing some seasonal items and taking out others. The process of cleaning clothes sometimes takes a lot of time, and storing them raises a number of questions: where to store things so that they do not take up too much space? How to protect them from insect pests? How to organize storage in such a way that things do not deteriorate while they are in the closet? Let's talk about everything in order:

Sorting

Before putting away anything you won't need this season, lay things out on the sofa or floor so that you can easily inspect them. Sort your wardrobe items: get rid of those that you no longer plan to wear. Wash, dry, air the rest. Treat cabinets and shelves with pest repellents. Place clothes in vacuum bags, sorted by type: let you have a separate bag for trousers, a separate bag for warm jackets and sweaters, a separate bag for dresses/skirts, etc. If you plan to store some items in boxes or drawers under the bed, take a photo of them using your mobile phone camera. This way you will remember which box contains a particular item. And finding it when the time comes will not be difficult.

Special conditions

It is better to store fur products on the balcony; in the cold they retain their appearance longer. It is important to note that fur coats or fur vests should not be kept in plastic bags - things in them will acquire a musty smell. It is recommended to store knitted items in boxes. After putting the moth repellent in the box, put hats and scarves in it. Leather outerwear should be stored on large soft hangers. It is better to put down jackets in vacuum bags, from which you can pump out the air with a vacuum cleaner. This way, the products will take up less space in the closet and will be better preserved until the next season.

Shoes

Perhaps the most important rule: do not dry washed winter shoes near a radiator or other heat sources. After washing it thoroughly, treat it with special products depending on the material from which it is made. To better keep your shoes or boots in shape until the next season, you can put crumpled paper in them, and then put them in boxes or special containers.
