Rihanna loves to go beyond style, and her latest cover for Interview Magazine is proof of that. The owner of Fenty Empire amazed many fans and social network users with a new photo shoot, outraged religious adherents with a colorful and hooligan monastic image.

It included a loose white blouse with a black robe, a headdress, bright red lips, smoky blue eye shadow and thin eyebrows. The facial expression is provocative and seductive, as one user wrote. In addition to the cover with the singer of the hit “Umbrella,” several more photographs were taken, and in all of them she is presented as a woman tortured by life.

Criticism

The cover was published in a joint post by the photographer and the magazine's editors. Many of the subscribers did not hide their disapproval, calling the images “disgusting.” “I don’t care who says what, I like to speak sincerely, with respect and love. But it is so inhumane and humiliating to see how Christianity is constantly mocked and how religious images are used for wrong purposes. Regardless of our religious beliefs, we must respect them and do so no matter where we are. Honestly, seeing people approve of this is just disrespectful. Respect is not complicated, but is obviously a very complex concept that is difficult for people with no brain to understand. Blasphemy and disrespect are ugly, and yes, before you start ranting about addiction, I know that Rihanna recorded the track “God is a woman”,” one commented extensively on the photo shoot in Interview Magazine from subscribers. “This is just disgusting, I'm not even a Christian or Catholic and I think it's just disrespectful and in bad taste,” another fan wrote.

Meaning

The singer's ultra-thin, barely noticeable eyebrows, smoky eye shadow and overall punk look are reminiscent of the grunge era that reigned in the UK in the 90s. The singer's transformations are inspired by her personal experience when she attended underground rave parties in London. Although many consider the cover offensive, the presentation of the visual material is consistent with Rihanna's character and way of expressing herself. As experts note, when she first entered the music scene in the early 2000s, she was liked by her sincerity and energy. She constantly tries to push boundaries in all areas of creativity. From emotional music to changing the beauty industry, creating an inclusive full-service makeup line and a lingerie brand that embraces all body types, to her eclectic wardrobe keeping her on the list of the most popular people on the planet.
