Tatler magazine has published a new portrait of Princess Catherine of Wales
However internet users didn't like it.
A new portrait of Catherine, Princess of Wales, has drawn mixed reactions from social media users. And it comes a week after the controversial image of her son-in-law, King Charles III, was unveiled.
The cover with Kate Middleton, wife of Charles III's eldest son Prince William, was published the day before by the famous Tatler magazine as a series of portraits of the British royal family.
According to the press service of the publication, this image of the princess was inspired by the state banquet held in November 2022 in honor of the beginning of the reign of Charles III. Then Catherine wore a dress from Jenny Packham, a bracelet of the late Queen Elizabeth II and long earrings that belonged to Princess Diana.
Catherine did not pose for the portrait in person. Instead, British artist with Zambian roots Hannah Uzor studied 189,000 photos of the princess to capture her “specialness,” Tatler reported.
Describing the creative method, Uzor added that she tried to catch Katherine's “soul” while painting. “It's very important to catch the soul of a person, so I spent a lot of time looking at her and her photos, watching videos of her - when she was with her family, during diplomatic visits, visiting sick children in a hospice,” the author noted.
However, not everyone on the internet liked Uzor's creation. Many felt that the portrait bears no resemblance to Catherine, who has not appeared in public since January due to health problems. “The drawing is beautiful, but it doesn't look like the princess at all,” one user wrote. “I don't understand this image. Am I the only one who doesn't see any resemblance to the princess?” another subscriber wondered.
Another commenter compared Catherine's portrait in Tatler to a recent portrait of Charles III in Red Scale. “After the failure with the King's portrait, I wanted to believe they would take more care to make this image perfect.”
