Whether you want to wear a corset as part of a fashionable look or use it during a workout to preserve or gain waistline, it is important to know how to wear and care for it properly. In this review, let's recall the history of corsets, look at their different types and choose the perfect one to suit your figure.

*****

Over the years, the corset has undergone many changes and variations. The first corsets were created to flatten bellies and straighten posture. Over time, they became more structured and shaped the body in an hourglass shape. In the early XX century, the corset lost popularity, it was replaced by other models that gave women comfort and freedom during movement. And recently, it has returned to mass fashion with the easy presentation of designers who have integrated corset elements into their models. Today, we have a wide range of choices, from traditional Victorian corsets to modern, streamlined shapes.

Almost completely covers the breasts, providing support and giving the body an hourglass shape. They come in a variety of styles - Victorian, gothic, futuristic. Over-breasted corsets can be worn over a dress or shirt, or as underwear, it all depends on the purpose of the image.

Underbust

Ends below the breasts, providing support to the midline of the body and having a pulling effect. They are versatile and can be worn with a dress, top, shirt or blouse.

Also known as a tightening corset, designed to emphasize the waist. Usually made of latex or other elastic material. There is a variety for workouts, worn on the recommendation of a trainer or doctor.

Long corset

Designed to cover the area of the body from the bust to the hips. Provides support for the middle part of the body.

Fashion corset

Created for aesthetic purposes and usually not intended to support or tighten anything. There are tons of styles and designs ranging from minimalist to sophisticated and intricate.

It is the prerogative of brides to wear this item on the big day. Usually under a dress, but more often as a bust type with a bouffant or flowing skirt.

How to choose the perfect one

It is quite a challenge to choose the right corset size. Carefully taken measurements of the bust, waist and hips should be taken into account, as well as the type of figure (apple, pear, hourglass, etc.) and the desired style. What to prefer - laced or zippered? Classic corsets take longer to put on because of the non-fast lacing process, but are considered more comfortable, allowing you to adjust the degree of compression and wear for a long time. But the “zipper” version is characterized by a fast process, but does not provide as much control as the “rope” version. And besides, it is dangerous to get stuck or break the zipper. Choosing a corset, remember, it should not fit too tightly, as well as should not “dangle”. If the first happens, you can faint or have difficulty breathing, the second can “jump out” the chest, which is also not comical. Therefore, it is better to hang in the fitting room for an hour or two, than later to realize that the corset does not suit you.

Nowadays, the corset has come into fashion as a full-fledged article of clothing that gives piquancy, seductiveness and grace. It can be paired with your favorite jeans for a relaxed look or over a dress to give the look a slight “drama” for an evening stroll around town. The possibilities are endless. “Whatever you decide to pair a corset with, it's versatile! Some still consider it lingerie and others consider it a fashion challenge,” says Krikit Luckow, founder of her own corset brand. - Anyone can wear a corset and it's unique to them because it's tailored to their body shape.
