Netflix has released the first still of young lady Agatha Danbury from the new Queen Charlotte prequel series. Agatha, played by Arcema Thomas, uses Charlotte's ascension to the throne to advance herself in society while under the influence of her older husband. Well versed in the intricacies of social life and marriage, Agatha becomes the guiding light for the new Queen, acquiring her own voice and power.
“Queen Charlotte” will reflect the events that preceded the plot of the hugely popular series “The Bridgertons” on the streaming service. It was directed by Shonda Rhimes based on the book series of the same name by Julia Quinn about a fictional aristocratic family living in England during the Regency era (19th century). A feature of the project was the historical liberties in the interpretation of characters from high society, which were portrayed by black actors. This practice will be extended to the prequel series.
Golda Rochevel, Adjoah Andoh and Ruth Gemmell will reprise their roles as Queen Charlotte, Lady Agatha Danbury and Lady Violet Bridgerton, respectively. India Ria Amarteifio ("On Duty") will embody the image of the young Queen Charlotte on the screen. A release date for the series on Netflix has not yet been announced.
