Glen Powell: Tom Cruise should be nominated for an Oscar
The 34-year-old actor believes that Top Gun: Maverick owes its success to its main star.
At the end of January, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce the nominees for the 2022 Oscars. Among them, according to experts, may well be Tom Cruise, who is destined for the laurels of the best leading actor for the film "Top Gun: Maverick." While film academics decide whether to be or not, the 60-year-old stunt actor is gathering a "support group" of colleagues. They insist that Tom, at a minimum, should be awarded an Oscar nomination, and at most, take the "golden man" home from the ceremony, scheduled for March.
“I'm sure Tom deserves a nomination in the Best Leading Actor category. I watched him deliver a completely authentic, soul-stirring and layered performance in this film. On top of that, he produced, taught other actors how to fly planes, and slept in the editing room! I think this guy did everything. If anyone deserves to be given credit for this movie, it's Tom. And I hope the Academy sees this. The film is impressive in many ways. But everything starts and ends with Tom,” said Glen Powell, who played Jake Serezin in this year's hit.
Before that, Tom Cruise was nominated for an Oscar three times for the films: Born on the Fourth of July (1989), Jerry Maguire (1996) and Magnolia (1999).
