Samuel L. Jackson will play in the animated film "Garfield" with Chris Prat

Samuel L. Jackson ("Disgusting Eight," "Kong: Skull Island") has joined the cast of the feature-length animated film "Garfield" from Sony Studios.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor will voice a new character -- Garfield's father, Vic.

The plot of the adaptation has not yet been revealed. The film will be directed by Mark Dindall ("Me and My Shadow"), with David Reynolds ("Finding Nemo") writing the script. The voice of the main character will be Chris Pratt ("The Magnificent Seven").

The release date of the picture has not yet been announced.
