Alexis Bledel has left "The Handmaid's Tale"

The 40-year-old actress did not give any reasons for leaving, but warmly thanked her colleagues for working together.

Alexis Bledel has announced her departure from the popular Hulu's dystopian series "The Handmaid's Tale". She worked on the project for four seasons as Emily/Ofglen and decided to say goodbye shortly before the release of the new, fifth season. "After much time and consideration, I felt I had to leave 'The Handmaid's Tale,'" the actress explained in a press statement. "I will always be grateful to Bruce Miller for writing such truthful and resonant scenes for Emily, and to Hulu, MGM, the crew and the cast for their support."

The series "The Handmaid's Tale" is based on Margaret Atwood's 1985 novel of the same name. Its action takes place in the future, when humanity suffers from infertility. The problem is solved by special female servants, who give birth to children from their masters.

In 2017, Bledel received an Emmy for "The Handmaid's Tale" for Best Actress in a Drama Series. And she has been nominated for the award every season of the project since.
