Hopkins to play emperor in series about corruption in ancient Rome

The artist continues to act even in his eighty-five.

85-year-old Anthony Hopkins accepted an invitation from director Roland Emmerich to star in the historical series Those Who Are About to Die.

The project will be an adaptation of Daniel Mannix's book, which tells about the "complex and corrupt world of spectacular gladiator competitions" in ancient Rome.

Hopkins will play the Roman emperor Vespasian, who went out to fight against corrupt members of the nobility, and thereby endangered not only his power, but also his own life.

The script for the series will be written by Saving Private Ryan author Robert Rodat, who will also act as showrunner for the project.

The other members of the series have yet to be announced. Information about the future premiere is also kept secret.
