Rising Hollywood star Jacob Elordi: How he chooses his roles
The 24-year-old actor gave an interview to Collider in which he talked about the lessons he learned on his way from Australia to Hollywood.
Jacob Elordy's career is rapidly gaining momentum. Just recently he starred in the teen romcom "The Kissing Booth" and now he's starring in the HBO drama series "Euphoria". He's not the sweet protagonist, but a bad-ass, hard-headed bad boy. And Calvin Klein and Hugo Boss are shooting him in clothes and perfume ads, and Burberry invites him to the shows in the front row.
Ahead of him is filming the third season of Euphoria and He Went This Way. And in March the erotic thriller "Deep Waters" will be released, where he played with Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas. All these successes did not fall from the sky to Jacob. Not long ago, he was one of thousands of aspiring actors flocking every year from all over the world to Los Angeles to try his luck in Hollywood. How did he manage to become his own in the mecca of cinema, we will learn from him?
Which character does Jacob Elordi portray in Euphoria?
Although he caught viewers' attention in the romantic franchise "The Kissing Booth" the series "Euphoria" revealed his ability for drama - to show the problems of growing up. In the HBO series, he plays Nate Jacobs, the main antagonist. Nate's list of crimes includes everything from battery to blackmail, and he has no intention of stopping. Nate's behavior is so defiant that fans rejoiced when the character was beaten up at the beginning of the second season.
Jacob Elordi admits he was nearly homeless when he joined the cast of Euphoria.
He is not playing humble when he talks about being grateful for the opportunity to play such a challenging role as Nate Jacobs. However, Elordi is also happy just from knowing that there is a job and a regular income. In an interview with Collider, he admitted that he wasn't in the best place before he was invited to audition for "Euphoria."
"I've felt very strange ever since," Jacob says, recalling the experience. "I was essentially homeless when I came to audition. In the Hollywood tradition, we were all (colleagues on the show) 'zeroed in,' so there was probably a willingness to die but get roles written all over our faces. When that kind of moment came, I was on edge. Oddly enough, then everything fell into place, psychologically."
How does Jacob Elordi choose to work on television and film projects?
He was immediately fired up with the idea of playing Nate. This was facilitated by Sam Levinson's (screenwriter, creator and director of Euphoria) vivid and engaging script. Reading it, Jacob was already imagining the scenes and knew that this role was made for him. So after reading it, he immediately called his mother to inform her of his desire to participate in the series.
But what else drives an actor when choosing a particular project? In the same Collider interview, Jacob explained that he really appreciates all the roles he takes on. In the past, he agreed to the projects that "do not grasp", and it turned out to be a professional disaster. So he promised himself not to repeat this mistake in the future.
"I've learned that it's important for me to give myself credit for wanting to work on something that gets me out of bed in the morning," Elordi shared. "I want to work and enjoy the process. The time you spend playing, between the action and the editing, is a minute. So if you have to give seventeen hours to a job, you don't want to do it for somebody and say unwanted words, because it's a living hell. Believe me, I know what I'm talking about".
