2023 Oscar Nominee Works as a Peddler at an Irish Café
The artist is not going to quit his job.
Nominated for the next Oscar, the actor of the short film Irish Farewell, James Martin, with Down syndrome, works in an ordinary cafe as a peddler and assistant cook.
According to Martin, despite some already gained fame, he is not going to quit his job at the cafe, because it was here that he was first given the chance to feel needed, and not the "black sheep", as it was before.
“I help all clients and have been doing it for a long time. I'm pleased. I can cook garlic bread, meatballs, salads, mussels, chips and the like. I am happy to deliver their orders to clients, ”the artist admits.
According to Martin, in fact, with his illness, with the desire and support of society, much can be achieved.
For example, he is often confused with actor Tommy Jessop (Coming Down the Mountain, Line of Duty), who is considered the first professional actor with Down syndrome.
Martin admits that meeting Jessop is his dream. “I was pleased if the “Oscar” was handed to me,” says the unusual actor.
