Ellie Bamber to play Kate Moss in 'Moss and Freud' biopic
The 25-year-old British actress will portray the former catwalk star during her time with artist Lucian Freud.
Ellie Bamber will appear as a supermodel
British actress Ellie Bamber, who recently starred opposite Jenna Coleman in the series Serpent, will play the role of Kate Moss in the new film, while Derek Jacobi will play the role of Freud.
The film "Moss and Freud" will reveal a busy period in the life of Moss
Freud painted Moss for nine months while she was pregnant with her daughter Lila. "He taught me discipline because I couldn't be late," the '90s star recalled in an interview with ShowStudio founder Nick Knight. “If I was five minutes late, he was already starting. But one day I was five minutes late, and he said: “Are you on the pills?!”, and I: “No, I'm pregnant!”.
Freud first met Moss after she mentioned in an interview that she wanted to be the subject of one of his portraits, despite the fact that he rarely painted celebrities. Their relationship transformed both of them, and the artist's completed portrait of a model sold at Christie in 2005 for £3.5 million.
Fortunately, Moss has a constant reminder of that time - a tattoo of a pair of birds, which Freud tattooed on her lower back. “I think this is a real Freud,” the Vanity Fair model later told, adding that the artist drew tattoos for his sailor buddies in the Navy. “I wonder how much a collector would pay for it? Several million? If things get bad, I could cut a piece of leather and sell it! Perhaps it would be the only copy in this form.
Freud is one of several creators who perceived Moss as a muse. Allen Jones made a cast of her using resin and steel, and Mark Quinn created several sculptures of her while she was doing yoga. Now one of them serves as a hanger in Kate's house in the Cotswolds.
Written by Oscar winner
In 2013, James Lucas returned home with an Oscar for a picture with Sally Hawkins and Jim Broadbent. And the script for "Moss and Freud" began to write, hitting "Lucien's studio, when the smell of his oil paints was in the air." As executive producer, Moss is also deeply involved in the project, as are the members of the Lucian Freud archive. “After watching The Phone Call, I knew that James would bring out the emotion in the story in an appropriate way, in a way that could be compared to a memoir,” she commented on the screenwriter's choice. “Having been involved in the project and writing the script from the very beginning, I am very excited to see the film being born.”
Moss' clothes from real life can be seen in the film
Kate keeps an extensive archive of clothes at home, dating back to 1993. And she went over it again when she was recently preparing for filming as part of an advertising campaign for Diet Cooks. "It couldn't be from the new collection because it was supposed to be mine," Moss explained in an interview with Vogue. Given the level of her involvement with Moss and Freud, it wouldn't be surprising if she borrowed tons of vintage, 2000s references for the shoot. Or turn to Bella Freud, Lucien's daughter and close friend, for help in choosing a wardrobe.
