'How to Train Your Dragon' to be turned into a feature film
Filming will be done by Dean DeBlois, who directed all three parts of the animated franchise.
Universal Pictures looks set to take advantage of the Disney archive by turning one of its animated hits, How to Train Your Dragon, into a full-fledged feature film. The studio is now developing a new project, which is headed by the director of all three cartoons in the franchise, Dean DeBlois. He will not only direct the film, but also write the script for it, and also act as its executive producer. And the premiere date has already been set - March 14, 2025. Although the selection of actors for the role has not yet ended.
The first cartoon How to Train Your Dragon (2010) was an adaptation of Cressida Cowell's books. The plot followed the adventures of the young Hiccup Bloodthirsty Karasik III, the son of Stoick the Vast, the leader of the Viking Island, nicknamed Berk. Although Hiccup is considered small and frail to be a fearless dragon slayer like his father and grandfather, he eventually manages to befriend a young dragon named Toothless and learns that these creatures are more than he was told.
It remains unclear whether the feature film will repeat this story or will be shot with a completely new plot.
