Paul Mescal and Melissa Barrera fall in love and dance in Carmen teaser
The world premiere of the musical drama by Benjamin Millepied is scheduled for April.
Paul Mescal and Melissa Barrera have teamed up to revive classical opera in Carmen. Sony Pictures Classics has released a short video clip of his highlights. The plot of the picture is based on the novel of the same name by the French writer Prosper Mérimée, which he published in 1845.
According to the official synopsis, the film follows "a young and quite independent woman" named Carmen (Barrera) "who is forced to leave her home in the Mexican desert following the brutal murder of her mother." Carmen manages to sneak into the US as a result of a "terrifyingly dangerous, illegal border crossing procedure" after a confrontation with one of her guards, who kills her companions. Another guard who helps the girl on her journey is Aidan (Mescal). They fall in love and together they are trying to cope with all the hardships that fall on their heads.
Set to music by Nicholas Britell ("Moonlight", "The Heirs"), the teaser shows Aidan's street fights with the police, his dances with Carmen against the backdrop of the desert during the period of starting a relationship, her performances in a Los Angeles nightclub, etc.
The musical drama Carmen is set to hit theaters on April 21st.
