Hugh Jackman damaged his voice on the set of the Wolverine films

“A vocal teacher at a drama school would be horrified by my actions,” the actor said of working on a character from the X-Men franchise.

Despite the success of his Broadway musical The Music Man, Hugh Jackman doesn't think he sings as well as he used to. And all because of Wolverine. Speaking to the BBC's Front Row, he revealed that he may have permanently damaged his voice while portraying a mutant superhero.

“I ruined my voice with Wolverine,” Hugh admitted. “My falsetto is not as strong as it used to be, and I associate it directly with growls and screams. A vocal teacher at a drama school would be horrified by my actions."

According to Jackman, at school he was taught to scream and yell without damaging his voice. However, while working on the X-Men films, he got carried away, completely immersed in the image, which he did not notice how he injured himself. "But I'm working on it," the actor said. “I work with a singing teacher and try not to hurt myself. I put in a lot of effort, both physically and vocally, preparing for every role." He is currently undergoing intense training to play the role of Wolverine in Deadpool 3.
