The film, released in the spring, is a sequel to the 1986 action film "Top Gun" directed by Tony Scott. In its time this film became a cult. It was Tom Cruise and became a global movie star. The years went by, the events in the new movie unfold exactly 36 years later - in 2022.

The plot is easy to retell. Pete Mitchell (Maverick is his nickname) has remained one of the best Navy pilots all these years. He's not just a fearless test pilot - he avoids promotion with all his might, otherwise he'll be forced to land and work on the ground. While training a squad of Top Gun graduates for a special mission, Maverick meets Lieutenant Bradley Bradshaw, the son of his deceased friend. And that's where the underlying fears, the ghosts of the past, come into his life.

"Where am I?" - These are the words that the aviation captain used, frightening the visitors of the roadside café. He had just reached an incredible speed on a jet plane. But the machine failed, and the pilot himself almost died.

"On Earth!" - answers the local boy to Mithell, perceiving the hero in the burnt suit as no other than an alien.

In the movie, this line is ridiculous. But it is also a very important key to understanding the entire film. The film defiantly doesn't fit in today's time, just as the first part didn't fit in the world of the 1980s. It is very large-scale for our post-war time, and very militaristic even for today's militant time.

The first film was propaganda beyond any conceivable limits. After the Vietnam War, the American authorities were trying by all means to restore the reputation of the U.S. Navy. And this order of the authorities was then successfully fulfilled: box office receipts were top-notch, and young people were only looking to enlist in the ranks of the American military. But there was a second bottom to the film: director Tony Scott admitted that the focus of the film was not at all on the love line of the pilot and Charlie the instructor, but on the male experiences with explicitly homosexual overtones.

"Top Gun: Maverick" is no different in this sense: from the taiga to the British seas, the American army is the strongest. And Tom Cruise is cooler than the entire army combined. Still, he's not just flying, he's teaching the young. Father-child conversations and all that, you know. It is also needs to be noted that the lead song for the movie (it's on the closing credits) was recorded by Lady Gaga, the incomparable queer queen of pop today.
