Barry Keoghan Joins 'Gladiator' Sequel
Will direct the sequel to the 2000 Oscar hit by Ridley Scott.
Another native of Ireland may appear in the sequel to "Gladiator" - historical drama with action elements, which will be a continuation of the film starring Russell Crowe. Barry Keoghan is in talks to star in a new Paramount Pictures project.
If a contract is signed, Keoghan will join fellow fellow countryman and colleague Paul Mescal, who has already been cast in one of the lead roles. The events of the film will unfold after the death of the protagonist of the original film, commander Maximus Decimus Meridius (Crow), demoted to the gladiators. Mescal will play his nephew, around whom the plot of the sequel will be built. What role Keoghan will play has not yet been reported.
2000's Gladiator grossed an impressive $460 million at the box office on a $103 million budget.
