Halle Bailey opens up about filming 'water' scenes in 'The Little Mermaid'
The Disney remake will be released on May 24th.
Filming in The Little Mermaid as Ariel was not easy for Halle Bailey. "I had a ton of scenes on the water," Bailey, 22, told Us Weekly. “For example, for (shooting) a shipwreck, they included machines pushing waves, wind and thunder, and you really felt like you were in the middle of the ocean ... I had the most exhilarating experience in my life.”
According to Holly, the process was "intimidating" at times. “For three months I had intensive physical training, and then almost every day I either hung in the air on wires, in a harness, or spent in water,” she said. “I was in the best shape in my entire life. But at the same time, I think that was the toughest part, to achieve that kind of strength.”
During this year's Oscar ceremony, the trailer for The Little Mermaid was released, garnering millions of dislikes on YouTube over the next few days. But Bailey tries to ignore it. "I don't react to negativity," she stated. “As an African American, this doesn’t surprise me at all.”
