"I've never been a fighter": Louis Garrel shared what inspired his new film

The actor had not really considered the subject of global warming to be of any interest to the viewer before.

Louis Garrel's film "The Crusade" began to conquer the big screens. Its main characters are children. They try to save the world from the catastrophe caused by global warming. In order to achieve their goal, kids sell their valuables kept at home, of which their parents find out after the fact.

The director of the film, Louis Garrel (who also plays the title role) confessed that this subject did not interest him at first, and, as he thought, could not interest the audience.

"In general, we first began to discuss with the screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrier his idea that children plotted to change the world. And I told him it was nonsense. And that we shouldn't involve children in adult things, because they're not interested at all." And the adults, he said, are tired of hearing about global warming too much.

But after watching young eco-activist Greta Thunberg speak, the filmmaker was suddenly inspired by such a challenging subject. "I'm far from it at all, I'm not a fighter or an activist at all," Garrel explained. But apparently there's an activist in everyone. You just have to be able to wake him up.
