The X-Files is back

Chris Carter, the show's creator, has revealed that Ryan Coogler is working on a remake of The X-Files, but did not specify what format the new release might take.

The X-Files, a major contemporary television franchise, will return with a new production. This was announced by its creator Chris Carter. During the series' 30th anniversary celebrations, Carter hosted a podcast in which he talked about some aspects of the new project. The most important detail is that it is led by Ryan Coogler, who is directing the Black Panther saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The first episode of The X-Files premiered on September 10, 1993. The first season had a total of 24 chapters and was estimated to have been viewed by an average of 11 million people. After that, there were ten more seasons and two films. Prior to Chris Carter's announcement, the last premiere of the production that could be seen was on March 21, 2018.

Chris Carter explained that not only will the new project have Ryan Coogler as director, but it will also feature a revamped cast. Judging by this, most likely, we are talking about a reboot of the X-Files franchise. Although it is not yet clear in what format it will appear.

What Chris Carter said about The X-Files

Chris Carter showed a story about a pair of FBI agents investigating the paranormal. Throughout the chapters, the characters played by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson followed a series of clues to come to a conclusion. The pulse of the episodes was marked by suspense and many people's fascination with what is beyond logic.

The creator, who at one time called himself "a non-religious person, but interested in a religious experience," embodied this idea in his series. He did this to the point where he turned it into a multi-generational cult piece, despite the fact that it became obsolete over time. Thirty years after starting this journey, Chris Carter went through the On the Coast podcast hosted by Gloria Makarenko. On that show, he had this to say about The X-Files:

“I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who will be directing The X-Files with a new cast. He has a lot of work ahead of him as we covered a lot (over 11 seasons).”

Speaking about the development of his series in a podcast, Chris Carter recalled that one of The X-Files' strengths was conspiracy. “But now the world is full of conspiracies. That's why I think things should be different these days."

As such, Ryan Coogler will take over the franchise, which was canceled in 2018.

At the moment, no premiere date has been announced, nor who the new cast of The X-Files will be; it has also not been revealed if this new project will be another season or a movie. Given Coogler's profile, it's likely that this will be a feature-length film. However, nothing has been confirmed in this regard.
