The fourth part was supposed to be the finale of the popular action film franchise John Wick. However, a fifth film was buzzed about immediately after the staggering box office data arrived, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group director Joe Drake said.
Directed by Chad Stahelski and starring Keanu Reeves, the film grossed $73.8 million in the US and $67.7 million overseas in its opening weekend. To this day, the profit amounted to almost $153 million. Not the last role in this impressive result was played by positive reviews from film critics.
The eventual production of a fifth avenger-killer film will not be an easy task. After all, the character of Reeves in the fourth film, by all indications, dies. But the history of cinema knows many examples of the return of popular movie characters from the other world, and it is possible that the scriptwriters, in the end, will figure out how to resurrect John Wick. According to Drake, now the fifth part of the film franchise, which the audience does not want to part with, can at least be a topic for discussion.
“There is will and there is openness. And you can, of course, interpret the ending differently,” he said. “We're all going to take some time off and then consider ideas about whether there's potential for a top-five finish. But, you understand, there is no guarantee.”
