Amazon to produce 'Cruel Intentions' TV series

The project will be based on the 1999 feature film of the same name starring Reese Witherspoon and Sarah Michelle Gellar.

After years of trying and failing, the series based on the acclaimed film Cruel Intentions has taken off. The eight-episode project is finally coming to Amazon Prime Video. Filming is due to begin later this year in Toronto, Canada.

The plot of "Cruel Intentions" is based on the novel by the French writer of the XVIII century. Pierre Choderlos de Laclos "Dangerous Liaisons". The modern version of the novel, mirrored in the 1999 film, followed the half-sister and brother of Catherine Murteuil and Sebastian Valmont, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe. The two make a bet that Sebastian (a notorious womanizer) will seduce the daughter of their college principal, Annette Hangrove, played by Reese Witherspoon.

Who will appear in the television series is still unknown. Events will unfold in the capital of the United States - Washington, where the duet of desperate relatives moves after a "cruel, mocking incident." The only way to justify themselves, in their opinion, is to seduce the daughter of the Vice President of the United States.
