Elizabeth Banks to Direct Remake of 'Girls Want to Have Fun'

The 1985 film stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt.

Actress/director Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games, Pitch Perfect) will direct a new version of the comedy Girls Want to Have Fun. In 1985, it was directed by Alan Metter, starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt, inspired by Cyndi Lauper's pop hit of the same name. The script will be written by Maria Lewis-Ryan and Ellie Romano.

The plot of the original film revolved around Jenny Glenn (Parker), who comes to Chicago to compete in a dance competition despite her father's ban. In the city, she meets Lynn Stone (Hunt), who in a friendly way helps Jenny fulfill her dream of winning the competition.

It is still unknown who will play in the remake. But according to THR, it will "celebrate female friendship, humor and kindness, and dance prowess."
